Sometimes the tiniest things—a passing look from a stranger, a snippet of overheard conversation, a sunset against the mountains—can inspire or inform a story. When I wrote Pura Vida, I was lucky enough to have the beautiful setting of Costa Rica fresh in my mind as a backdrop for my guys.

It’s a truly amazing country and I recommend it to all travelers. Since I’ve been a few times, I’ve amassed more pictures than can be stored on a single hard drive. I thought I’d share just a few of them with you now, so you can get a glimpse into the world where Simon found love.

Anyone else been to Costa Rica? Any good stories? I may or may not have fallen in quicksand and lost a shoe.

Simon has found himself in an open relationship for the summer—though not by choice. Instead of wallowing, he’s decided to make the most of a family vacation to Costa Rica by hooking up with the first hot guy available. Trouble is, he has no clue how to go about doing that.

Luckily, he runs into someone with a little more experience. But when the moments of lust turn into something more, Simon isn’t so sure he’ll be able to return to his old relationship. And there’s no way to hold onto this new one, either, as thousands of miles will separate them in only a few short weeks. Either way, he’ll have to learn to let go.

Short Story Cover Love

Last week the multitalented Madison Parker made cover art for two of my short stories. If you’d ever seen me draw a stick figure, you’d know I’m no artist, so I’m always grateful whenever someone lends their artistic abilities to my stories.

Madison will be by my blog in April to talk about some of the research methods she used for her upcoming release, Play Me, I’m Yours. Love that title!

New Short

Social Skills is almost done. I swear. My plan is to re-release it within the next two months. I just received the official permission to quote lyrics from Kiss Me, Kate (thank you, Dani, for reminding me to keep it legal :P) and it’s out for a final edit.

For a little break, I wrote a very short piece with a non-linear approach. Choices is a story about how everyday decisions affect one man’s life. I’d say more about it, but, uh, it’s getting late…(nothing to do with how much I detest writing blurbs).

Short Story

I wrote a short story for GayAuthors.org last month, on a whim. No Strings is a light-hearted story about high school relationships, friendship, and sex…in a Young Adult sort of way.

I think the fluffiness of this story might’ve been a reaction to my crap year, or to the darker themes I dealt with in Silent. Either way, if you want to read something light ’n happy, here you go.

No Strings
